Over a million people affected as heavy monsoon rains hit south-eastern Bangladesh.
Heavy monsoon rainfall since early July 2026 triggered widespread flash flooding and landslides across seven districts of Chattogram Division, affecting an estimated 1.3 million people, including hundreds of thousands of women and children. Damaged roads and footpaths cut off hillside communities from hospitals and clinics, disrupting access to essential health services at a critical time.
UN agencies and local partners moved quickly to support the government-led response, delivering safe drinking water, hygiene kits and emergency health support to displaced families sheltering in temporary centres across the division. Protection risks for women and children, including early marriage and child labour, have also risen as households cope with lost income and damaged homes.
