Fear of Infection Drives Sharp Drop in Child Healthcare in DR Congo’s Ituri Province

New data shows a sharp decline in children and women accessing essential healthcare.

New health data from Ituri Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo shows a sharp decline in the number of children and women accessing essential healthcare, including childhood immunisation and safe deliveries. UNICEF says disruption of services and fear of infection during a disease outbreak are keeping families away from clinics and hospitals, with essential healthcare visits down sharply in recent months.

UNICEF is working with local health authorities to rebuild trust in health services and restore access to routine immunisation, maternal care and nutrition support for children in the province.
